County’s sporting champions to be honoured at MWR Lancashire Sports Awards

Community sporting stars from across Lancashire will attend the largest celebration of amateur sport in the county, the Lancashire Sports Awards, on Friday November 25 at the Hilton Hotel, Blackpool.

The awards, sponsored by MWR, will be opened by Adrian Leather from Lancashire Sport Partnership with a helping hand from the Commonwealth Games 2010 Bronze medallist and champion swimmer, Daniel Sliwinski. The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports news presenter and rugby league reporter, Angela Powers.

The eight award categories have been judged by former England captain, Jimmy Armfield OBE, MWR’s Jane Booker and Dave Edmondson from the Football League Trust.

The 74 finalists are competing to be named as the winner of categories including Coach of the Year, Community Club of the Year, Rising Star and the award for Lifetime Achievement.

More than 380 people have booked seats to attend the sell-out award ceremony, including regional sporting personalities and business leaders, along with the families and friends of the finalists.

The ceremony brings together representatives from Lancashire’s 14 local authority districts to celebrate the achievements of the county’s most talented amateur sportsmen and women of all ages, and those who coach and support them.

Adrian Leather, chief executive of Lancashire Sport Partnership which organises the annual event, said: “These awards highlight both our current performers and our stars of the future that will continue our reputation as fantastic sporting county.

“The event also gives the county an opportunity to acknowledge people who help develop our stars -   the countless coaches, administrators, and other volunteers who put so much hard work into supporting sport across the county.”

Jane Booker, partner at MWR Solicitors, said: “We have a wealth of talent in our county and as a business that is committed to helping amateur athletes in our community, we are very proud to be involved in the awards.

She continued
“The level of nominations for the Lancashire Sports Awards surpasses expectation each year and it’s a great reminder that people are inspired by sport and are inspirational to others.

All nominees from each district can be found on the Lancashire Sport Partnership website. Doors open at 6.30pm and the official ceremony commences with a sit-down dinner at 7.30pm. After the winners have been announced, guests will dance the night away until late, at a glitzy after-show party.
