How often should I update my Will?
Wills and Probate Solicitor, Helen Scott-Parker explains;
Clients who hold a Will with MWR are contacted every five years to make sure that the Will still reflects current wishes. However, our specialist team are also available to offer legal advice and make amends to Wills at any point – whatever stage of life you are at.
When you should contact your solicitor and why;
- If you have recently married it could mean your Will is not valid.
- You may have had more children or grandchildren whom you wish to include in your Will. If they are not already mentioned within your Will they may not receive anything in the event of something happening to you.
- Similarly, if you have had children for the first time, you may wish to appoint guardians in your Will.
- You may have enjoyed a recent lottery win, inherited money or been left property and require advice on how to change your wishes.
- If you move house or the people mentioned in the Will change address you may be required to contact your solicitor to ensure new details are listed.
- You may wish to revisit your Will simply to check all the information you originally provided is still correct.
Times when we may notify you;
- To discuss changes in law regarding Wills and how these could affect you.
- A reminder to review your Will to ensure everything is present and correct.
