A Penwortham youngster is aiming to be the best-dressed cricketer in the Palace Shield junior cricket league after scooping a top cricket prize.

Anthony Dark, 11, won a £150 voucher for cricket equipment in an online competition run by Preston law firm, MWR Solicitors, sponsors of the Palace Shield junior cricket competition.

The competition, called Clickit, was open to all junior cricketers of the junior Palace Shield competition and required entrants to visit MWR’s website - www.mwrlaw.com - and answer a simple cricket question.

Peter Meloy, managing partner at MWR, said: “Having sponsored the junior section for the past four years, we thought it would be a great opportunity for the many youngsters who play in the league to win some cricket equipment.

“It was a hugely successful competition with cricketers from across the region taking part. We even had one cricketer enter from Pakistan but unfortunately he was slightly out of our jurisdiction.”

Anthony, who is a pupil at Hutton Grammar School, collected his prize at the recent Palace Shield annual awards ceremony held at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

He has since cashed them in for two cricket bats, batting pads and gloves, boots, a bag, wickets, wicket-keeper pads and lining gloves.
