Preston lawyers set-up free helpline for bomb victims
4 August 2005

A LEADING Preston personal injury law firm has embarked on a Government initiative to provide free legal advice to the victims of the July 7 London bomb blasts.

MWR Solicitors, which is based on Cannon Street in Preston, has set up a free hotline for those victims of the bombings who need legal advice about their rights and entitlements.

Following discussions between the Government, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (the governing body of the UK legal industry) and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), solicitors across the UK were invited to take part in the scheme.

MWR, members of APIL, along with other firms in the UK will advise victims on completing application forms for compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, collation of evidence to support applications, their rights and entitlements and advice about probate, wills, welfare benefits and inquests.

Jane Booker, partner at MWR, said: “Like everyone who saw the atrocities in London, we were deeply shocked and saddened by the events of July 7. As members of APIL we were asked to provide specialist advice to those who needed it and had no hesitation in getting involved.

“It is only during the aftermath of such traumatic events that people face up to the practical aspects and we have a specialist team who have been trained to cope with providing advice in such circumstances.”

The hotline number is: 0800 731 4796.

MWR Solicitors has over 50 employees in Preston and provides personal injury advice to people involved in accidents at work and home, road traffic accidents, holiday accidents and victims of criminal injuries throughout the country.
