LEADING Lancashire law firm MWR has strengthened its trade union links after the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers’ Union (BFAWU) opened a base within its Preston offices.
The move enables daily contact between union staff, members and solicitors who can share resources and exchange information more quickly.
MWR’s Cannon Street premises are now a convenient contact point for the Union’s growing local membership which totals over 2,000 in Preston alone.
MWR partner Jane Booker said: “The firm has a long history of involvement with the BFAWU and their move here makes sense from every perspective.
“We now have regular contact with full-time officials and members who are able to make the most of our resources.
“We are delighted to offer the BFAWU our continued support.”
BFAWU National President Ronnie Draper said: “This move is great news for the union which is stronger than ever in the North West.
“We have a big membership in the region and this new base at a central location is ideal.
“MWR has been a great source of support for our members and this is yet another example of the strong relationship we enjoy.
“It is as important as it ever was to join the BFAWU.”
The BFAWU was first formed in 1847 in Manchester after a group of Journeymen Bakers came together to improve wages and living standards.
MWR will attend the BFAWU annual conference in Bridlington between the 6th and the 10th of June.
MWR specialises in personal injury claims, employment matters, domestic conveyancing, wills and probate.
