LEADING Lancashire employment lawyer Sadiq Vohra has secured a £30,000 payout for ten Blackpool workers after a dispute at one of the world’s most famous sports car manufacturers.
Sadiq, who is a partner at Preston law firm MWR, worked with the Transport and General Workers Union in representing 20 workers from supercar firm TVR in Blackpool in an employment dispute which developed following mass lay-offs earlier this year.
The staff were told there was no work for them and expected to be “rested” on full pay but TVR chiefs insisted new contracts stated they should get a minimum guarantee payment.
The matter was not resolved but on the morning of a tribunal hearing in Manchester TVR – which makes the Tuscan Speed Six which appeared in Hollywood movie Swordfish – settled claims for ten out of the 20 applicants who will share the £30,000 payout.
Commenting on the case Sadiq said: “This was a factual dispute as management claimed they had introduced new contracts which meant they only had to pay workers a minimum guarantee payment rather than full pay.
“However, TVR were unable to provide proof that they had introduced new contracts for the successful claimants.
“The ten staff concerned were mainly shop floor workers and thankfully nearly all have now returned to work.”
