PRESTON’S first Asian professional sportsman is hoping to hit the big time with backing from knock-out city law firm MWR.
Welterweight boxer Suz Member is poised for success after recently turning professional and is training daily in Manchester around his job as a firefighter.
Suz, a powerful puncher, has won eleven fights in knock-outs. He is training hard with a view to his first professional bout which could be as early as Easter but funding the travel, fees and kit he needs to succeed is proving difficult without outside help.
MWR, based on Cannon Street in Preston, which has a history of supporting local sports stars, has agreed to sponsor Suz to enable him buy the basics including tracksuits, trainers and bandages and gym fees.
Suz said: “I will do anything to achieve my dream.
“I have this one chance to make it and will give it everything.
“I have been boxing in Preston for many years and many people know me through my training at Fulwood and West View Leisure Centres.
“I have the commitment and belief to succeed and I hope the people of Preston will get behind me as MWR have.”
MWR partner Altaf Patel, said: “Many sports stars who have the talent to succeed fail at the first hurdle due to financial pressures.
“It would be great for Preston if a homegrown talent like Suz could make it to the top.
“We are proud to be able to help him give it his best shot.”
MWR is one of Preston’s oldest law firms. Its legal services include wills and probate, conveyancing, employment law, occupational diseases, road traffic accidents and accidents at work.
