Free legal help centre opens in Barrow
13 March 2006

A NEW free legal help centre is set to open its doors in Barrow, to help people suffering an illness as a result of exposure to asbestos during their employment, to obtain compensation.

The Asbestos Legal Help Centre will start on March 23 and will take place every Thursday at Age Concern, Lakeland House, Abbey Street, Barrow, from 12.00pm-6.00pm

The surgery is run by Lancashire occupational disease law firm, MWR Solicitors, which has helped hundreds of people in Cumbria claim compensation for illness suffered through their work.

Sharon Rigby, head of the campaign, said: “Many workers have been exposed to asbestos without knowing it. Ill health conditions then develop in later life which may be due to previous asbestos exposure.

“We are handling many cases on behalf of people in this area and we have seen a steady increase in enquiries for asbestos related illnesses. Unfortunately, many are unable to travel to Lancashire so we wanted to set up a help centre. The centres are totally free to attend and will be manned by trained experts.”

A free phone number has been set up for anyone wanting to make enquiries. Call 0800 731 0717 for further information.
