Kricket 4 Kenya appeal gains extra support
27 September 2006

MWR Solicitors’ charity appeal, Kricket 4 Kenya, has received another boost as storage company, Stor-it, has pledged a free 100sq ft unit to house the cricket and sports kit donated to the appeal.

The Preston law firm set up the campaign at the beginning of August and it aims to collect as much cricket and sports equipment as possible to send to under privileged children in Kenya.

Since its launch, the firm been inundated with enquiries about the appeal and it is currently working with the Kenya Cricket Association and the Friends of Kenya Cricket organisation to promote the appeal.

Stor-it provides storage facilities for both commercial and domestic clients at its depot based in Frank Street, Preston. It has been working with MWR since October 2005 providing holding facilities for its archives.

Paul Scudamore, managing director of Stor-it, said: “When we heard about the campaign we threw our weight behind it straight away. It’s a very worthy cause.”

Jayne Raven, head of marketing at MWR, said: “We are pleased that Stor-it is supporting the appeal and we hope to get the same type of backing from other local businesses. There has been a great response from the local sports clubs. You never know, we may need more storage space!”

Kenya is one of the world’s poorest nations and at the start of 2006 suffered one of its worst droughts. This has threatened the lives of thousands of children across the country and in some of the worst affected areas the rate of malnutrition is double the World Health Organisation’s critical rate.

MWR have set up a drop off centre at its offices on Cannon Street, Preston, for people to make donations. There will also be a guest book, which will be taken over to Kenya with the kit, for people to sign and leave messages for the children. For further information, call Jayne Raven on 01772 254201.
