Preston law firm, MWR Solicitors, is calling for schools in Lancashire to help support its Kricket 4 Kenya sports appeal by donating any unused cricket or sports equipment
The campaign was launched in summer 2006 by MWR and is appealing to schools in the area to donate any unused sports equipment, including cricket stumps, helmets, pads, footballs, goal-posts, football and cricket shirts, old training kits, volleyballs or lost property.
The Cannon Street law firm initially set up the campaign to focus on cricket but have decided to expand it to include sports wear and equipment of all types, which will be transported to the children of Kenya in late 2007.
Jane Booker, partner at MWR, said: “We are appealing to schools to get involved in the campaign. If they have any old sports equipment lying around that is no longer used please donate them to the appeal.
“We recently gained the support of Friends of Cricket Kenya who will be assisting with us with the campaign and we are inundated with enquiries and donations since the appeal started. We aim to collect as much sports kit and equipment as we can and we hope that the schools and children of Lancashire can help children in Kenya.”
Kenya is one of the world’s poorest nations and at the start of 2006 suffered one of its worst droughts. This has threatened the lives of thousands of children across the country and in some of the worst affected areas the rate of malnutrition is double the World Health Organisation’s critical rate.
MWR has set up a drop off centre at its offices on Cannon Street, Preston, for people to make donations. There will also be a guest book, which will be taken over to Kenya with the kit, for people to sign and leave messages for the children. For further information, call Jayne Raven on 01772 254201.
