ENGLAND football captain, John Terry, Frank Lampard and the rest of the Chelsea team has lent its support to a Preston law firm’s charity auction dinner after donating a signed football as one of the main items up for grabs.
MWR Solicitors is holding a special charity dinner and auction evening in aid of its sports appeal, Kricket 4 Kenya, at the Barton Grange Hotel in Preston on Friday, May 18 2007. The signed football is just one of the many lots available, which inludes a trip to Kenya, a signed England rugby shirt and a cricket bat signed by the Kenyan cricket team.
The evening’s entertainment will also include a three course meal, a raffle and a live band. There will also be a few words from Surinder Biant, the chairman of Friends of Kenya Cricket UK and Jane Booker, a partner at MWR, outlining the progress of the appeal.
Kenya is one of the world’s most deprived nations and in summer 2006 MWR launched the campaign to collect unwanted sports equipment and clothing for children in Kenya aiming to bring fun and laughter to some of the children’s lives. One of the main aims of the evening is to help raise some of the funds required to transport all the equipment to Kenya in autumn 2008.
Jayne Raven, MWR’s Kricket 4 Kenya campaign manager, said: “The response to the appeal has been overwhelming and it appears to be a cause a lot of people feel very strongly about.
“A significant amount of businesses and schools have donated sports equipment to the appeal, which is fantastic and greatly appreciated. This special evening will now hopefully generate some of the income needed in order to transport these kind donations to Kenya.
”We are hoping the event will be a fantastic evening but at the same time highlight the plight faced by many children in Kenya.”
