AMATEUR sports across the region are to receive a financial boost after one of Preston’s leading law firms announced a number of new sponsorship agreements.

MWR Solicitors, which is based in Cannon Street, is to sponsor the National Roller Hockey Association (NRHA), Preston Piranhas BMX Club, Fulwood and Broughton Cricket Club, and Vernon Carus Cricket Club.

As part of its sponsorship of the NRHA the firm will be giving away 50 free tickets to local schools for NRHA matches.

MWR’s financial tie-ups is the latest in a long list of local sporting sponsorship deals which has seen the firm support Double Six Racing, local boxer Suz Member and the Palace Shield junior cricket league.

The firm is also the main sponsor of the Preston Sports Awards for the next three years and runs its own sporting charity. Kricket 4 Kenya, which is collecting unwanted sports kit and equipment for underprivileged children in Kenya.

Jane Booker, a partner at MWR, said: “We believe that it is vital to both promote and support sport in the local area. A number of sports clubs in the area depend on financial support from local businesses and without this they may be forced to close.

“Health and fitness have become serious issues within society and sports are a good way for people to improve their health, develop crucial life skills and have fun.”
