£4,000 on the board for Kricket 4 Kenya
29 May 2007

THOUSANDS of pounds were raised by Preston-based law firm, MWR Solicitors, at its charity dinner and auction in aid of its Kricket 4 Kenya appeal.

The event raised over £4,000 and was attended by over 150 people. Rock FM DJs, Gemma Dee and Adam Catterall, helped auction off a number of lots including a football signed by Chelsea F.C, a box at the Lowry, a local handyman for a week, a box for a match at Liverpool F.C and even a last minute donation from Amir Kahn of a signed pair of boxing gloves.

The event was held at Barton Grange Hotel to help raise funds for the costs of transporting all the donated equipment 4,000 miles to Kenya in autumn 2008.

Jayne Raven, the Kricket 4 Kenya campaign manager, said: “The evening was a great success and we managed to raise a fantastic total. So many people have given generously to the cause and we are deeply indebted to them for their kindness.

“When the kit is transported in next year and we hope to have doubled the amount of kit that we have collected so far. All donations from cricket stumps to football shirts are welcomed and we are appealing to schools, sports clubs, businesses and individuals to please donate any unused sports equipment.”

Kenya is one of the world’s most deprived nations and in summer 2006 MWR launched Kricket 4 Kenya to collect unwanted sports equipment and clothing for children living there. Cricket is the second highest watched sport in Kenya and now enjoys an important role in its sport culture. The Kenyan Cricket Association and Friends of Kenya Cricket UK is assisting MWR with the campaign.
